HEAVY SECURITY DEPLOYMENT DISRUPTS NATIONAL UNITY PLATFORM EVENT

In a statement shared on Twitter by President Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP), allegations have emerged regarding heavy-handed actions by security forces during a planned NUP gathering. According to Kyagulanyi, the incident occurred shortly after a successful end-of-year party organized for children of NUP supporters who were killed, disappeared, or detained for their political beliefs.

Kyagulanyi revealed that the security forces, led by an officer identified as Asiimwe, heavily deployed early in the morning upon learning of the NUP’s plans to host a gathering for their colleagues and supporters. The security personnel allegedly stormed the premises, arresting workers and firing tear gas into the compound.

“The criminals under the command of one Asiimwe deployed early morning, arrested our workers, and threw tear gas into our premises. They’ve cordoned off the premises and blocked all people from accessing the place,” Kyagulanyi stated.

He further named three individuals—Saava Peter, Mudenya Samson, and Turyasingura Samson—among those arrested. According to his statement, the workers were violently apprehended, subjected to beatings, and interrogated about their political affiliations.

“These JATT operatives asked the workers who they support politically, branding them terrorists and criminals—their only crime being that they work with us. You can imagine the indignity!” Kyagulanyi lamented.

This disruption comes amidst heightened political tension in Uganda, with repeated accusations of government suppression against opposition groups. Despite the challenges, Kyagulanyi concluded his post with a hopeful message, asserting, “UGANDA WILL BE FREE.”
