Ottawa, Canada, August 2024 – Following his successful engagements in the United States, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has brought his message of democracy and human rights to Canada. The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader’s visit to Canada is part of a larger North American tour aimed at galvanizing support for the fight against political oppression in Uganda.

Address in Ottawa
On his first stop in Ottawa, Kyagulanyi addressed a large gathering of Ugandans, many of whom had eagerly awaited his arrival. The event, filled with emotional speeches and calls for unity, saw Kyagulanyi emphasize the critical role of the Ugandan diaspora in advocating for change back home. He spoke passionately about the ongoing human rights abuses in Uganda, urging the diaspora to remain actively involved in the struggle for freedom and justice.

We are all Ugandans, no matter where we live,” Kyagulanyi told the crowd. “Your voices matter. The world needs to hear from you about the reality in Uganda. Together, we can bring about the change our people deserve.”

Upcoming Events in Toronto
Following his Ottawa engagement, Kyagulanyi is expected to address another large group of Ugandans in Toronto. The Toronto event is anticipated to be one of the highlights of his Canadian visit, given the city’s significant Ugandan population. In Toronto, Kyagulanyi plans to further elaborate on his vision for a democratic Uganda, focusing on the importance of global solidarity in confronting the current regime’s oppressive tactics.

Engaging with Canadian Officials
During his visit, Kyagulanyi has also met with Canadian officials and human rights organizations, advocating for stronger international pressure on Uganda’s government. He has called on Canada to take a more active role in supporting human rights in Uganda, including considering sanctions against those responsible for political repression.

Diaspora’s Role in the Struggle
Kyagulanyi’s tour emphasizes the importance of the diaspora in the ongoing fight for democracy. He has consistently urged Ugandans abroad to leverage their positions to raise awareness and support for the cause. The response from the diaspora community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many pledging to increase their efforts to support NUP and other pro-democracy movements.

As Kyagulanyi continues his North American tour, the attention remains on how his visit will influence both the diaspora and international communities in supporting Uganda’s journey towards democracy. The NUP leader’s message is clear: the struggle for freedom is a collective effort, and the support of Ugandans worldwide is crucial to its success.
