Makindye General Court Martial Adjourns Bail Hearing for Comrade Achileo KivumbiMakindye General Court Martial Adjourns Bail Hearing for Comrade Achileo Kivumbi

Achileo Kivumbi, the head of security at NUP Headquarters, was released on a cash bail of 2 million Ugandan Shillings after facing an incommunicado detention. Abducted on August 1, Kivumbi’s case has drawn significant attention, shedding light on the tactics often used by Ugandan authorities against opposition members. During his detention, Kivumbi was denied access to family or legal representation, a common occurrence with political detainees in Uganda.

After a lengthy legal battle, Kivumbi was finally granted bail by the General Court Martial, a decision that many hope signals a shift toward fairer judicial treatment for opposition members. Bobi Wine and other NUP leaders have expressed solidarity with Kivumbi, reaffirming their commitment to supporting those targeted for their political beliefs.

The release marks a small victory in what has been a long and arduous journey for Uganda’s opposition, highlighting the resilience of NUP members and supporters in the face of governmental opposition.
