For decades, Uganda has been under the iron grip of President Yoweri Museveni and his family, who have wielded power with little regard for the welfare of the nation. At the center of this dynastic rule stands General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son, who has been positioned as the heir apparent in a bid to entrench the family’s control over the country. But as CMP Publications uncovers, the dark side of this family’s rule has brought more harm than good to Uganda.

Under the Museveni regime, Uganda has experienced a steady decline in democratic values, human rights, and economic stability. The President’s tight grip on power has been characterized by the systematic repression of political opposition, widespread corruption, and the militarization of the state. Gen. Muhoozi, who has been rapidly promoted through the ranks of the military, plays a significant role in this oppressive apparatus.

Muhoozi’s rise in the military is not a result of merit but of nepotism, reinforcing the perception that Uganda’s armed forces serve the interests of the Museveni family rather than the nation. This concentration of power within the family has led to a culture of impunity, where corruption and abuse of power go unchecked.

The Museveni regime’s economic policies have consistently failed to deliver prosperity for the majority of Ugandans. Instead, they have enriched a small elite, including members of the Museveni family and their close associates. Under their rule, Uganda has seen rising unemployment, increasing debt, and a widening gap between the rich and the poor.

Despite the government’s claims of economic progress, the reality for most Ugandans is starkly different. Basic services such as healthcare and education remain underfunded and inaccessible to many, while the cost of living continues to rise. The Museveni family’s focus on maintaining power has come at the expense of meaningful economic development, leaving millions of Ugandans struggling to make ends meet.

Gen. Muhoozi has been a central figure in the militarization of Ugandan politics. His involvement in the military has been marked by accusations of human rights abuses, including the violent suppression of protests and the targeting of political opponents. The military’s role in silencing dissent has only deepened the country’s political crisis and further eroded trust in the government.

The Museveni family’s reliance on the military to maintain power has created a dangerous environment where the rule of law is routinely ignored. Extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and torture have become common tactics used to intimidate and silence those who dare to challenge the regime.

As Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba continues to position himself as the successor to his father’s throne, Ugandans must be wary of the dangers that lie ahead. The Museveni family’s rule has already inflicted significant damage on the country, and there is little reason to believe that a continuation of this dynasty will bring anything but more suffering.

The time has come for Ugandans to reject the idea of a family dynasty ruling over their lives. The future of the nation depends on the establishment of a government that is accountable to its people, respects human rights, and prioritizes the welfare of all citizens, not just a select few.

Ugandans must stand firm against the continued oppression and mismanagement by the Museveni family. The dark legacy of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his father is a clear indication that their rule is not in the best interest of the nation. It is time for a change—a change that brings hope, justice, and true progress for all Ugandans.
