Bobi Wine Delivers End-of-Year Address, Calls for Renewed Commitment to Change in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda – December 30, 2024

Bobi Wine, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and prominent opposition figure, delivered his end-of-year address to the nation today from his home in Magere, reflecting on Uganda’s tumultuous 2024 and outlining his vision for the future.

In his address, Bobi Wine commended the resilience of Ugandans, who he said have endured immense challenges under President Yoweri Museveni’s regime. “2024 reminded us of the urgent need for change,” he stated, citing a litany of issues including economic despair, rampant corruption, mismanagement of national resources, and continued human rights abuses.

Highlighting the year’s notable challenges, Bobi Wine pointed to corruption scandals, rising unemployment, and the militarization of the state. He also addressed political persecution and the tragic Kiteezi landfill collapse, which claimed over 30 lives. He lamented the abductions of prominent figures, including Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was taken from Kenya, and the attacks on judicial independence that forced Justice Esther Kisakye to flee the country.

Despite these trials, Bobi Wine praised the courage and tenacity of ordinary Ugandans, stating, “It is the resilience of our people that kept us going.” He emphasized the collective determination to reclaim Uganda’s dignity and build a future based on freedom, justice, and opportunity for all.

As 2025 approaches, the NUP leader called on Ugandans to recommit to holding the regime accountable and advocating for justice. He expressed solidarity with political prisoners still detained, reiterating his party’s steadfast demand for their freedom.

Bobi Wine’s message concluded with a rallying cry for unity and action, declaring, “Together, we shall overcome.”

The address marks a critical moment in Uganda’s opposition movement as it prepares for the coming year, with heightened efforts to mobilize citizens and challenge the status quo.
