UN Security Council Ambassadors Meet President Museveni to Discuss Regional Peace and Security

Ambassadors from United Nations Security Council member countries met with President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe to deliberate on critical issues of peace and security in the East African region. The high-level meeting highlighted Uganda’s central role in promoting stability and addressing regional challenges through diplomatic and multilateral efforts.

The discussions focused on ongoing regional conflicts, transnational security threats, and strategies to enhance cooperation among nations to foster stability. President Museveni reiterated Uganda’s commitment to peace-building initiatives and emphasized the importance of collective action in resolving conflicts affecting the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

“We must strengthen our partnerships and work as a unified force to tackle the challenges of insecurity and ensure peace for our communities,” President Museveni stated.

The ambassadors, representing key global powers including the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, commended Uganda’s contributions to peacekeeping missions and its leadership in mediating regional disputes. They acknowledged the country’s strategic importance in maintaining stability in East Africa and expressed their nations’ readiness to support Uganda’s initiatives.

The dialogue also addressed specific areas such as enhancing intelligence-sharing, combating terrorism, managing cross-border security threats, and mitigating the effects of humanitarian crises in conflict zones. Additionally, opportunities to strengthen economic and technological partnerships were explored as vital components of sustainable security.

The ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with Uganda to address these pressing issues. They underscored the need for continuous collaboration to achieve long-term peace and prosperity in the region.
