Police Deploy Heavily in Kisoro, Residents Push Back Against Intimidation

KAMPALA, Uganda, Nov. 11 — Heavy police forces, known as “Mambas,” have been deployed extensively across Kisoro town, escalating tension by using intimidation tactics. The deployment comes as local residents, tired of what they describe as repressive measures, rally under the slogan “Enough is Enough.”

This development marks a contrast to the positive reception in Soroti District, where the National Unity Platform (NUP) concluded its countrywide tour with a rally promising change, justice, and economic empowerment. NUP officials pledged reform, particularly in combatting what they called a “corrupt clique” supporting President Yoweri Museveni. Supporters in Soroti enthusiastically welcomed the team, showing significant support for the movement, according to NUP spokespersons.

The NUP plans to continue its campaign next week, heading to Kisoro District in Western Uganda. The visit is intended to support Sultana Salim, who is running in the Kisoro Woman MP by-election.
