Ugandans Deliver Petition to Canadian Government Amid Protests Against Museveni Regime

Ottawa, September 2024
Ugandan protestors in Ottawa delivered a powerful message to the Canadian government today, gathering in front of Ontario’s Parliament to demand immediate intervention in Uganda’s ongoing political crisis. This protest follows the attempted assassination of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine by Ugandan police on September 3, 2024, outside Kampala.

Led by NUP leaders Doreen Kajumba and Nakato Brenda, the protestors marched from downtown Ottawa to Parliament Hill, holding banners that read “Museveni Must Go” and “Stop the Killings.” The protest, part of a coordinated effort across multiple Canadian cities, culminated in the delivery of a petition urging Canada to take decisive action against Museveni’s regime.

“This is a moment of reckoning for Uganda, and the world cannot afford to stand idly by. Bobi Wine was nearly assassinated, and unless we act, more lives will be lost under Museveni’s dictatorship,” said Nakato Brenda in a passionate speech to the crowd.

The Ottawa protest drew a large turnout, with demonstrators calling for sanctions on the Ugandan government and for international support in restoring democracy. The event received widespread media coverage from CMP Publications and Afro Live FM Canada, highlighting the growing demand for global intervention in Uganda’s deepening political crisis.
